My
name is Claire Sculley and I am from Quincy, Illinois. Growing up I loved
horseback riding. I started riding when I was 4 years old and continued to ride
for for 11 years. Unfortunately, school and life interfered and eventually I no
longer had the time. Some of my hobbies are crafting, makeup artistry, and keeping
an eye out for fashion. A few of my close friends go to the Art Institute here
in the city and whenever we get together we make earrings, brooches, headbands,
etc. or we knit (I still need to master knitting). Aside from crafting, fashion
is something I crave and enjoy. There’s just this “hunger” that I have to put
on that “new sweater” or that “unique necklace”. Also I enjoy collecting
jewelry (mostly big necklaces). Although I enjoy crafting and fashion, makeup
artistry is one of my passions. This summer I am going to makeup artistry
school to become a certified makeup artist. Right now I do makeup for my friends’
photo-shoots or just whenever people want me to. I’m excited to go to school
and learn more about what I love doing.
As
I mentioned in class, I am going to be transferring to a different school next
semester. Columbia is no longer the right choice for me basically because I don’t
wish to continue studying Audio Arts and Acoustics. I originally chose Columbia
not only for its urban setting, but also because Columbia has an amazing
AA&A program. I believe college is about discovering and learning: learning
about the subjects in one’s courses and discovering new facets of one’s self. I
have learned so much from my courses. I have also learned that I need to take a
new direction in my career path.
Hey, Claire!
ReplyDeleteYou definatley sound passionate about fashion and that's fab! Perhaps you will be able to incorporate the subject into your class project? Think deeply about *why* you're interested in fashion? What kind of meaning does it hold for you? What kind of function does it have in society? Take a gander at lookbook (I'm sure you know of this site?) and think about the artistry and expression present in some of the "looks."
PS--It's a great idea to become certified in a specialty like makeup, while you're still an undergrad. It'll be nice to earn good money, while you're still in school, doing something you enjoy!
